TITANIUM BOLT
— Scroll to the bottom of the page for an overview of all pens currently in production —
The current revision of the titanium bolt action pen is my 3rd iteration of this design. The most notable features with the new variant are:
Reduced overall size (current parker production is ~3/8" shorter, 5.18” overall)
O-rings on both tip and endcap (reduced tendency to loosen with time)
Shorter bolt action cycle distance for a smoother more pleasing feel
Included ‘rate spacer’ to alter cycle spring rate, this allows user to customize how the bolt action cycle feels, more information on this below.
The tip and end of the pen screw into the body section. There are o-rings on each of these parts to reduce the tendency for the parts to unscrew with time. The o-rings should never require replacement but they are a standard DASH 008 size should extras every be required.
The titanium pocket clip is affixed to the rear of the pen via a single T8 titainum torx screw. The clip itself indexes into a pocket on the endcap, the screw only functions to hold it into the pocket.
The easiest way to replace the ink refill in the pen is to unscrew the tip of the pen.
Update Feb 2024 - Some users reported the 'large’ spring rate spacer not allowing the pen to properly cycle. This was caused by slightly longer than expected springs. Designing around this presents other issues so all pens going forward will come with the single ‘rate spacer’ installed in the pen. Remaining text on this page has been altered to show the correct product information.
Pens ship with the Easyflow 9000 refill but will also accept most Parker style refills. The refill can be placed into the pen with 2 different spring rate setups. Each pen ships with 1 ‘rate spacer’ (rate spacer installed inside the pen when shipped).
Using the included spacer gives the bolt action a higher spring rate and a more firm bolt cycle. Removing the spacer provides a very light spring rate and a softer cycle.
The thumb stud on the bolt action is threaded into the bolt slider. The stud has been hand tightened in place and affixed with a small amount of loctite 222. Should you require more leverage to unscrew the stud wrapping a rubber band around the head section of the stud is an easy way to get extra grip with no risk of marring the finish.
To remove the endcap of the pen you can use the pocket clip as leverage to break the endcap free, once slightly loose the clip can be removed via the T8 torx screw and the endcap removed from the pen. Placing a small section of cardstock between the body and clip will help protect the finish.
The entire disassembled pen can be cleaned with soap and water if required. The bolt slider has a small amount of teflon dry lubricant applied during final assembly, this helps to aid break in of the bolt action cycle. A small amount of dry lubricant can be added if desired after cleaning.
A small amount of dry lubricant added to the tip of the pen where the refill slides in and out can also make a substantial difference in overall feel. This was also done before the pen was shipped to you but can be replaced after a deep cleaning.
During assembly the bolt slider goes into the pen a specific way, the rear of the slider has been marked with a small divot. Double check for the correct orientation during reassembly after cleaning (divot should face up, towards the endcap side of the pen).
To remove finger oils from the surface of the titanium parts use a soft cloth and Windex to restore the vibrancy to the anodized colours. This can also be done with the pen in the fully assembled state. Nebula finished pens are especially susceptible to colour dulling from finger oils but is easily removed with a quick Windex wipe.
